Hosu Lee

(ENG) Hosu's practice stems from a desire to understand time, as a way of confronting the fear of death and disappearance. Working primarily in sculpture and kinetic installation, he asks how aging objects and the way they move can evoke sensorial memories of one's birth and early childhood, and whether those memories open onto the origin of time. Central to his work is a series of autonomous machines that generate the hypnotic motion of pendulums, reaching toward a time before measurement, a memory before language. Woodworking and pencil drawing form the ground of his practice, which extends into pneumatics, hydraulics, sound, electronics, and coding.
